What killed the cats in Midnight Mass?

Things start out quite slowly in Midnight Mass. While there are some creepy moments early on in the series, things get really weird in the second episode of the Netflix original series.
There are Midnight Mass spoilers below!
Following a major storm that knocks out power to all of Crockett Island and Riley (Zach Gilford) thinks he sees Monsignor Pruitt on the beach, hundreds of cats wash up onshore. They’ve been killed by something, and they all have the same markings.
So, what’s up? What killed all these cats in the new Netflix series from Mike Flanagan?
Again, BIG spoilers for Midnight Mass! Turn back if you haven’t finished the season.
Well, that’d be the monster, of course, at least that’s what I think we are mean to assume. It’s never explicitly stated what killed the cats, but it’s not hard to put the pieces of the puzzle together.
In the first episode, we see Ooker, Warren, and Ali traveling through to the place on the island that’s overrun by cats. We hear Ooker say that he sees something big fly over his head and he thinks it might be an albatross, which is a big bird.
Later, all the cats that we see in that scene turn up dead. It’s easy to put two and two together here. Clearly, what killed the cats was the thing that Ooker saw flying above them.
What was that thing? Well, that’d be the angel that Father Paul brought to Crockett Island.
It appears the angel needs blood to live, and instead of taking out a few of the residents of Crockett Island, it starts by sucking the blood of a bunch of cats. Gross!
With all the cats gone, the angel has to turn to humans sooner rather than later, right? Of course! The cats are the beginning, but it becomes so much weirder.
