Taylor Swiftâs former music teacher, Barbara Kolvek, has opened up about her memories of teaching the singer, who was âalways writing poetryâ.
The Tortured Poets Department is the eleventh studio album from the iconic singer-songwriter Taylor Swift. Since its release, the fandom has been working restlessly to decode and dissect what may be her most lyrically dense and enriched project yet. Across its tracklist, Taylor has taught listeners so much, but can you possibly imagine what it must have been like to teach Taylor? For retired music teacher Barbara Kolvek, that pride is felt All Too WellâŚ
Taylor Swiftâs music teacher says she was âalways writing poetryâ
Former music teacher Barbara was lucky enough to teach Taylor from first through fourth grade at Wyndcroft School in Pottstown, Pennsylvania.
âShe always was writing poetry,â she recalled to CBS Philadelphia when remembering how Taylor was as her pupil. âAlways.â
However, there was a rebelliousness in her passion for poetry too, as Barbara adds that she was penning verse âEven in music class when she shouldnât. I did give her her very first singing solo. âFast Talk Freddie,â I believe it was called.â
Swifties may not find the future iconâs passion from a young age all that surprising, and itâs something that Barbara is proud to have nurtured.
âI feel like maybe I gave her a little spark or encouragement to do what she was doing,â she speculated. The pair even shared correspondence via email over the years, after she left the school.
Taylorâs other teacher still sends her âChristmas card every yearâ
Although no longer working at the school, another teacher Heather Brown used to work in third grade at Wyndcroft, and Taylor was in the first class she taught.
â[Taylor] probably doesnât get the messages anymore,â Heather admitted, âbut I still send her a Christmas card every year. I still write her notes and congratulate her⌠Every student has a special quality. And you always remember every student from the quality they have. Taylorâs quality was just being she was one of those students where people just drew to.â
Not only is she so proud of her former student, but her son Ethan is a certified Swiftie. The 21-year-old even wore a T-shirt to the Eras Tour with an old photo of him at four years old next to a teenage Taylor.
âI didnât have any, like, glitter or any of that to wear one of the eras,â Ethan explained. âSo I made this shirt, you know, walking around feeling like I was the tallest man in the world.â
As for the smallest man in the world, refer to The Tortured Poets DepartmentâŚ
