Towards the end of last year, Selena Gomez delighted fans when she released her first song Single Soon in two years, but it looks like the excitement may be over soon as she’s made a confession that may leave fans heartbroken.
The music star had a busy 12 months last year, from releasing her new single to picking up an MTV VMA with Rema, and even announcing her new relationship with music producer Benny Blanco. But those who thought Selena Gomez dating a producer would mean more tracks in the future may be in for some disappointing news.
Selena Gomez may be ‘quitting music’ after her next album
Yep, you read that right. The confession came after the Disney Channel alum’s recent appearance on the Smartless Podcast, hosted by Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Sean Hayes.
“I do feel like I have one more album in me, but I would probably choose acting,” she told the hosts. As well as her music, she stars in Hulu’s hit show, Only Murderers in The Building.
We were first introduced to Gomez when she starred as a child actor in Barney in 2002. However, she gained her big break on TV screens with the lead role on Disney Channel’s Wizards of Waverley Place as Alex Russo for five years, from 2007-2012.
“I started having a lot of fun with music and then touring was really fun,” the 31-year-old said of her early career.
“But I was doing my TV show [Wizards of Waverly Place] at the same time and I just found it really fun so I just kept going. But the older I get, the more I’m kind of like, ‘I would like to find something to just settle on’,” she revealed.
She also told listeners she “never intended to be a singer full-time, but apparently that hobby turned into something else.”
It looks like the hosts are big fans of her music too, as they told the star she didn’t have to pick either. However, Selena Gomez may opt for quitting music over acting. She replied: “You’re right, but I am going to want to chill because I’m tired.”
The star also opened up about her mental health struggles and having to cancel one of her tours due to ‘work overload’. “It just got to me because I love working and it distracts me from bad things,” she admitted.
Benny Blanco ‘hard launces’ his girlfriend on Instagram
Although the news may be disappointing to Selena’s fans, it looks like her boyfriend may have cheered them up by posting adorable pics of her on his Instagram story.
The pics needed no captions, and he took some candid snaps sitting opposite a shy Selena, who smiled and covered her face, showing off her festive red nails.
The celebrity couple recently announced they had been dating for six months before it became public to the world.
If their adorable body language is anything to go by, it looks like they’re in it for the long run.
