Virgin River season 5 finally released on Netflix, but expert binge-watchers out there have likely already zoomed through the ten new episodes. We’ve still got a couple of months to wait for the upcoming Virgin River holiday episodes, so in the meantime, might we suggest another endearing small-town series?

Hart of Dixie is a former CW show starring The OC alum Rachel Bilson that ran for four seasons and shares a surprising amount of similarities with Virgin River. Both shows are set in a charming small town and feature a main character who is a medical professional that relocates to the town. Funnily enough, both shows also feature a curmudgeonly doctor played by Tim Matheson.

Overall, Hart of Dixie is a little more of a comedy than a drama and tends be quirkier than Virgin River. The drama on Hart of Dixie is generally played for laughs and while there are serious moments, Virgin River is definitely the more dramatic of the two. Hart of Dixie plays more into the romantic-comedy tropes and after the somber tone of Virgin River season 5, that might be just what you need.

Like many CW shows, Hart of Dixie used to be on Netflix, but is sadly no longer streaming on the service. Thankfully, there are many shows similar to Hart of Dixie and Virgin River on Netflix, including Gilmore Girls, Sweet Magnolias, and Ginny & Georgia.

For now, the only place you can stream Hart of Dixie is via Freevee, which is a free, ad-supported service owned by Amazon. The only downside of watching the show on there is that there are ad breaks and there isn’t a way to pay for Freevee to watch ad-free.

If the commercials bother you, you can also purchase the entire show digitally from Amazon, Apple, and other digital retailers. The series was released on DVD, as well, for those who prefer physical media, though some seasons are harder to find these days.
