Emily in Paris season 3 has finally arrived on Netflix, and the new season answers all of our burning questions about that shocking season 2 cliffhanger.
When we last left Emily, she found herself at a crossroads in both her personal and professional lives. Madeline approaches her with an offer to advance in the company, which includes moving back to Chicago. Meanwhile, Sylvie asks Emily to leave Savoir for her new company.
Mind you, this all happens as Emily discovers Gabriel and Camille have moved in together and Alfie tells her he’s committed to a long-distance relationship. That’s a lot to consider! What and who does Emily choose? Does she stay in Paris? Here’s the answer to last season’s cliffhanger!
Warning: Spoilers ahead from Emily in Paris season 3!
When we meet back up with Emily in Emily in Paris season 3, she’s still on the fence about what do with her future and the two different paths that are laid out in front of her. In order to avoid choosing, she doesn’t choose and simply works for both Madeline and Sylvie.
That means, Madeline’s under the impression that Emily’s still chiefly loyal to Savoir and intends to move back to Chicago for a job promotion and salary increase. Meanwhile, Sylvie also believes Emily’s a loyal team member for the new company with Julien and Luc.
Of course, Emily’s world comes tumbling down when her scheme is uncovered by Sylvie and she’s let go. Even though Madeline’s initially mad at her, she keeps Emily on board and Emily chooses — by default — to work for Savoir.
However, when Madeline later elects to close up operations in Paris per instruction from the Gilbert Group, she expects Emily to keep her job, pick up, and move back to Chicago. In that moment, Emily realizes she doesn’t want to leave Paris. It’s her home now.
She turns down Madeline’s offer and quits her job with Savoir, finally choosing to stay in Paris… with or without a job. Emily briefly revels in the unrest of “fun-employment,” though she grows restless and nearly kills one of Gabriel’s diners as a waitress. Thanks to a solid tip to Sylvie’s new agency, in episode 4, her former boss decides to hire her back on board. Emily’s staying in Paris!
